What is Potato Starch?
July 25, 2017What is Potato Starch you ask? Well, according to Dr. Hyman it helps to balance your blood sugar and feed the good gut bugs. Seemed funny that I was to avoid all carbs but then it was highly recommended to take this twice a day. Its because potato starch is a resistant starch that has some unique properties, including improving metabolism, insulin sensitivity and blood sugar. It also increases fat burning and reduces fat storage in your cells. All sounds great right?
It doesn't taste bad; you just get a hint of potato taste but overall not bad at all. Only thing that was an issue- I must have skipped an important key word when reading the 'Eat Fat, Get Thin' book; "Build up to 1 to 2 tablespoons in 8 ounces of water twice a day." I missed the word "build!" I started out taking a tablespoon at night and man did I pay for it! Things are better now as I cut back to 1/4 tablespoon.
I will continue on my potato starch journey and see if I can get my gut bacteria back in check.
